As well as life assurance and home and motor insurance, our product range includes pensions, mortgages, with-profits bonds, critical illness products, unit trusts and ISAs. Whilst the Society has evolved to meet the demands of its customers, it has remained firm to the co-operative principles that underpin its success.
During 1999 the Society adopted a policy of "responsible shareholding", which follows the principles of socially responsible investing and includes active voting and engagement with companies on issues of concern.
It is our belief that if companies are to maximise their performance in the long term it is essential that they adopt the best corporate governance practices. We therefore welcome initiatives that seek to promote best practice in corporate governance and uphold the rights of minority shareholders.
